USEFUL SWIMMING BOOKS:
Masters Swimming: A Manual, by Blythe Lucero and Cornelia Bleul-Gohlke
An informative guide for those who want to go to a masters workout but have no idea about what’s going on and have no high-school or college competitive swimming background. The book has a glossary, covers the strokes, pool toys, types of training, and there’s info on ettiquite. An excellent reference for those new to squad swimming.
The Triathletes Guide to Swim Training by Steve Tarpinian
This swimming book is more focused on swimming for the triathlete. There’s more depth about the strokes, technique, drills (not just for doing drills, but to actually remedy different problems of one’s stroke), and advanced freestyle techniques. This particular coach frequently discusses the need for a strong kick. There’s coverage of strength and flexibility training as well. The coach discusses swimming with groups, solo, and open water. The appendix has training plans for all triathlon distances.
