Porter Valley Masters


(Dave Miller talks about why the Porter Valley Masters Swimming program at Porter Valley Country Club in Northridge, California, works for his training for triathlons.)

In 2007, Porter Valley Country Club inaugurated an adult swim program called Porter Valley Masters Swimming, a regional club of United States Masters Swimming (USMS). USMS is a national organization whose member clubs organized workouts, competitions, clinics and workshops for adult swimmers of all abilities.

On the local level, PVM is governed by Southern California Masters (SPMA) has approximately 3,300 members.PVM is based on the USMS model. Anyone 18 years of age or older can join a regional Masters Swim program. USMS was founded in 1970 and currently has over 45,000 members with more than 500 local swim clubs located throughout the country. USMS holds national championships each year for short course yards in the spring and long course meters in the summer.

Despite its elite-sounding name, USMS is a national organization that provides organized workouts, competitions, clinics and workshops for all adult swimmers of all abilities who want to improve their fitness through swimming at Porter Valley Country Club. The program is designed for a wide range of swim abilities. Everyone from beginner swimmers, interested developing a better technique, lap swimmers, training for a triathlon, or just attracted to the water for any reason, this full body workout program is a perfect fit. Swimming is one of the most popular forms of aerobic exercise, and it is an excellent activity for anyone who wishes to get fit and stay fit.

Dan Sigafoos, PVM Coach will also provide customized workouts along with pointers on your stroke, technique, workshops on. etc. For those who enjoy the competitive edge, this program is perfect to learn techniques to compete and measure individual progress at the local, state, national and international levels.
